PIXAR UNDERGRADUATE (PUP) PROGRAM 2023

BREAKDOWN:

1.  "All Lights Go Red" |  Pixar PUP Indie Project:

“All Lights Go Red” is a concept I used for an individual project as a Pixar Undergraduate Intern in the summer of 2023!  I used this project as a trailer-like animation to visualize this expressive character and world, where inanimate objects light street lights aren’t what they seem, and anything can be stalking you at any moment.  I was very passionate about bringing this character to life, and fully realizing an animated shot to look at if I ever continue building this story and world.
I am responsible for all aspects of the monster-like character in this shot including modeling, shading, and rigging, and was assisted and taught by various of the Technical Directors at Pixar for the duration of this project.  I am also responsible for all animation, lighting, layout, and set dressing, and used preexisting Pixar models for all of the street assets and environment.  I also animated an existing Pixar background character model for the human character in the scene.  This project was created with Maya, Presto, Katana, and other Pixar proprietary software, and was rendered through Nuke and After Effects.

2.  "Red" |  Pixar PUP Indie Project:

“Red is the character created for my “All Lights Go Red” project and was made to resemble an amalgamation of street parts with the head of a traffic light.  In my concepts, it would try to blend in with its environment during the day and have its lights function normally.  At night, it would begin to hunt and it would take on its more monster-like form with all of its lights turning red.
I am responsible for all aspects of this character and its concept art.  I learned to rig its wire-like limbs with the help of various Technical Directors at Pixar.  Rigging was an important part of this project in making sure that the monster’s limbs could stretch without deforming the static objects entangled along its body.  It was also important to create limbs capable of moving in snake-like ways to support the animation needed to capture its unsettling nature.  This project was created with Maya, Presto, and other Pixar proprietary software, and was rendered through Nuke and Katana.

Red in Real Life:

“Alongside creating the 3d "Red" model, I also created a life-size model of the creature out of found materials and things considered to be trash.  I wanted to make it an amalgamation of its environment, similar to the 3d model, and used old laundry bottles, keyboards, plastic, spray paint, and a lot of cardboard.

"In-Between" Short Film:

“In-Between” is a group short film created by the Pixar Undergraduate Interns in the summer of 2023!  In this project, we were given 2 weeks to create a 30-second - 1-minute short film with our team of PUP Interns.
In this project, I am responsible for modeling and shading the props on the train along with all of the clothes for our character, “Eliza”.  We played with experimental ways to model and shade throughout this project and wanted to collectively create a painterly style that was non-photorealistic.  I am also responsible for the character animation in some of the shots in this film, and shot-sculpting for the character’s clothes in each shot, along with partial modeling on parts of the train like doors and tables.
